Rose (Rosalie)'s Story
*My parents moved from Brownsville to Houma, Louisiana on Aug.17th, 1963 - my senior year. I graduated from St. Joseph Benedictine High School in 1964. Bernard Portier and I were married in 1970. We had Tiffany Marie Cecile in 1972, (graduate from Nicholls State University-1995). Ray-Bernard was born 1975 (He earned a BS in Chemistry, an Associative Degree in Pharmaceuticals in his earlier years. On May 15th, 2007 he earned three additional degrees all at one time: Doctor of Osteopathy, a Masters in Public Health, and Masters in Hospital Administration. He is a Lieutenant in the US Navy. He was in Japan for 6 years but received his new station Sept. 2013 with his wife in Washington State). In 1979 our 2 pound 3 ounce premature baby, Travis Luke, was born 1979 . Although he remained in the hospital in New Orleans for 3 months, he has no handicaps. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME. Travis is a successful businessman with California Aquatics in San Diego , CA. (Wedding next summer).
*My children's father passed away never getting to see our children graduate from the universities nor see our granddaughters Tiffany and David Sonnier gave us: Madelene Claire 2005 and Ella Jeanne Marie...Expand for more
Sonnier 2007.
*I earned my BA, M.Ed, 30+, and have 45 hours over that in education at Nicholls State University. I became a teacher, then a Supervisor of Student Teachers and later a Master Teacher. I received the award of Teacher of the Year on three different occasions. Being assigned as an Assessor for Teachers in the State of Louisiana gave me the opportunity to develop a state wide program for LEAP (Louisiana Educational Appraisal Program) for "NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND." After 40 years in the educational system, I retired.
*I enjoy being a very active "Mimi Rose" to Madelene Claire (9) and Ella Jeanne Marie (6). They are an enormous blessing to me. Being they attend St. Francis Catholic School in Houma, I assist in all their school activities.
*I enjoy fine art: watercolor/acrylics and dabble in pastels, pen & ink, and mixed medias. Attending art workshops is one of the most enjoyable times in my art hobby. I belong to Terrebonne Fine Arts Guild in Houma where I serve as 1st Vice-President. I enjoy traveling to museums, art/craft shows, making jewelry, sewing. and am now writing a novel : historical fiction. I do not like housework...but I do enjoy eating desserts.
